Cellular Trend Watch: June – October 2010

It has been a while we have analyzed on the cellular subscriber statistics. This post shall take a look at the trend onwards from June (Q2 end) to latest release of October numbers.
Towards the end of July 2010, the Pakistan Mobile Industry crossed the landmark of 100 million subscribers.

Wi-Tribe Ranked No.1 in Quality by PTA
By Arsalan Mir | December 9, 2010 | 3 CommentsIn its 2010 annual report, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced that wi-tribe Pakistan successfully ranked number one in both the ‘Technology Neutral’ and ‘Technology-wise’ categories for highest Quality of Service, despite being the youngest broadband company, after just over one year of launching commercial services. PTA’s acknowledgment of wi-tribe’s service quality emphasizes that the company is passionate about delivering nothing short of excellence to its customers.
To celebrate this achievement, PTA Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Yaseen, was invited by wi-tribe Pakistan’s CEO, Mustafa Peracha and his team for a cake-cutting ceremony at wi-tribe’s head office in Islamabad. During the ceremony, wi-tribe’s CEO Mustafa Peracha expressed his delight on the recent achievement, stating, “I am elated about wi-tribe’s success in Pakistan. I’m also thankful to PTA for recognizing our effort to take broadband to the next level.”

Telenor’s CSR Initiatives for Pakistan in 2010

Telenor and the Norwegian Red Cross have signed an agreement making Telenor a Red Cross’ key partner for the next three years. The 3-year agreement provides NOK 1.5 million in annual relief assistance to Pakistan. Jon Fredrik Baksaas, President and CEO at Telenor, said:
The flood disaster in Pakistan, where we have operations, has had a strong effect on us, and the efforts of the Red Cross to get the country on its feet again have been formidable. So the Such?? Such bill boards around the city come from the launch campaign of Mobilink Jazz’s youth centric segment Jazba. The youth segmentation in Pakistan started with Telenor’s Djuice, which was followed by Glow by Warid and then came Ufone with Uth.
Jazba (means passion in urdu) is indeed a vibrant name to attract the youth. The tag line it gets is “Such Apnao, Jazba Jagao!”
